If you don’t know who Captain Planet is, then you must be from another planet! Captain Planet and his Planeteers graced our t.v. screens in the early 1990’s to entertain and educate audiences about the importance of protecting our planet. Even though he had blue skin and a green mullet, he was still the hippest superhero around.
So why did Hollywood never make a movie about Captain Planet? Now would be the perfect time to praise the environmental awareness that Captain Planet brings to families everywhere, especially with the threat of global warming and a continued rise in greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.
Since no movie has ever been made, I decided to pick my top 2 candidates for the role of Captain Planet. I’ll list the pros for both, so you can decide!
When I was younger I remember that all my friends liked the cute cartoon characters that were associated with the colors of red, pink or purple… or some other horribly bright girly color. I guess that’s why Strawberry Shortcake, Barbie, Elmo, Big Bird and those adorable My Little Ponies were so popular.
But being the tomboy that I was, I was always drawn to colors like blue, black and green. I loved the Smurfs and their evil tormentor Gargamel, who looked more like a goofy Adams Family character than an evil sorcerer.
I also happened to like green characters, like Oscar the Grouch, Kermit the Frog, the Grinch and the Incredible Hulk. Maybe that’s why I got drawn into the green movement. Read the rest of this entry »
