If you’re like me, you live your life by lists. So I’ve compiled the following list to help some of you who want to go green but haven’t yet developed a plan get started. Pick as many as you think you can reasonably manage and then get going it’s fun and smart at the same time! 1.If you live far from your office consider telecommuting. Talk to your managers about the efficacy of this practice not only from an eco-stance, but from a company over-head stance as well since a lot of times this can open up office space for shared-desk applications. 2.Get informed watch a few videos or television shows about why simple changes can result in great impact. 3.Stop buying new when it comes to books, clothing or furniture check out some used and gently worn resources. The words on the pages of the book are going to read the same whether they’re brand new or already read. Or better yet, consider an electronic reader for paperless pastimes. 4.Get to know your neighbors so you can all share resources like power tools or other infrequently-used items. You’ll save clutter in your garage, meet some potential friends, and slow down excessive production of rarely-used items. 5.Making your own cleaning products is not only a very easy process, but is saves money, time, and packaging as well as your indoor air quality. All of those things should matter to you. Once you get these five handled, try adding on to your list in personal ways like deriving a plan to save gas (either through a more economical car or biking to work one day a week), eating one meatless meal a week (since meat production can be linked to environmental and health costs), or installing water filters instead of buying bottled water which serves no purpose but to pile up in our landfills. The list should be easy to develop especially since one of your action items above it to get informed about simple changes you can incorporate!
