Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to drive to your parents’ house on the weekend, or take a trip to the beach
with your best buddies, without worrying if you’ll have enough money to make it back?
Today’s gas prices are out of control, and they’re going to be that way for at least another year.
So I got to thinking about how nice it would be if we had some modes of long distance transportation that didn’t rely on non-renewable resources. Like the cool cars and gadgets we’ve seen in some of our favorite movies.
I decided to make a list of the “Top 5 Pop Culture Vehicles That Don’t Use $4 Per Gallon of Gas and Pollute the Air with Carbon Dioxide.”
5) Silver Surfer’s Board - Not only is this board composed of an almost entirely indestructible material, but it’s also mentally linked to the Silver Surfer’s mind. Could you imagine having a vehicle that used no gas and was powered by your thoughts? Oh, and that looked really shiny and cool.
4) Gadget ‘Copter - Inspector Gadget really was a-head of his time with this invention. Get it? If only we could have magic helicopter blades that came out of our hat. Obviously, electric-powered and recharged under 2 hours.
3) Star Trek Transporter - It might hurt just a little bit to be placed under a beam of light and then disassembled to get to your destination, but at least you don’t have to pay for gas. Oh yeah, and don’t you just want to say, “Beam me up, Scotty!”
2) Iron Man’s Suit - Robert Downey Jr. definitely made this suit look cool. The suit not only protects its wearer with a force field, but it also has a backup solar energy recharger. Hey, it may be heavy and extremely hot to wear, but isn’t being able to fly enough of a reward?
1) Back to the Future Hoverboard - Everyone in the world thought that Marty McFly was THE MAN when
he rode his ultra-hip hoverboard. Too bad they never became a reality. Apparently the scenes with the hoverboards were made with the boards nailed or glued to M.J. Fox’s feet, and then him being suspended from a rig and driven around by a truck. A blue screen was also involved.
Hybrids and electric cars are definitely great for the environment, but I think it would be way better for us to create the above vehicles. They’re not just eco-friendly, they’re also unbelievably cool.
